Thank you Zircon for partnering with me on this video - I am falling more and more in love with the Zircon Tools SuperScan Kx Series the more that I use them! | AD
Head over to bit.ly/3kyFZhY to get your Zircon SuperScan Kx Series stud finder and use my codes below: Purchase a K3 at full retail, use code RACH-K3 and receive a free Leak Alert X. Purchase a K4 at full retail, use code RACH-K4 and receive a free Breaker ID. Valid through 1/31/2021
I’ve never seen a USworldsr test out a design idea on half of a room so I decided why not? While I was learning what is behind my walls with Zircon’s SuperScan K3, I was able to sketch out, test and DIY a design I wasn’t too sure about to begin with. What are your thoughts on this process and where this project is headed? Part 3 with the full reveal coming later this week! Thank you for your patience, love and support xx.

  • For those of you who didn't see my community post, please go check that out for more detail as to why I've been so MIA. There is a ton going on behind the scenes with my recent move to Joshua Tree and I can't wait to share what is to come SO SOON in 2021 BUT UNTI L THEN PLEASE NOTE: I know my content has been taking a bit of a dive but I promise you it's worth the wait as I pump out two final videos for 2020 and refresh, recenter and renew everything having to do with my channel coming 2021.

  • The absolute shoddiness of this work is giving me so much anxiety. I can't. My dad does drywall and tile...my brother is a pro painter and they would guffaw at this. I get it. She's a DIYer but ...this is next level sloppiness. Whew.

  • Does the K3 work on lath and plaster walls?

    Kalan LynnKalan LynnMonth ago
    • Hi Kalan. Great question. The K3, in Metal Scan mode, can help locate the nail heads attaching the wood lath to the studs if it is within scan range, assuming that there is no metal mesh. Hope this helps! If you have any questions, please do give us a call at 1-800-245-9265 Mon - Fri 8AM - 5PM PST during our normal business hours or via email at techsupport@zircon.com. We'd love to hear from you and are happy to help. Cheers!

  • I really, truly love your projects but as someone who is a brand new novice beginner and new homeowner I wish you'd be able to dumb it down even further. Maybe a lot of the things you talk about are common knowledge to most people, but I wouldn't even know what a "brad nail" is :(:( I would love to implement some of your projects in my own home but as of now, the tutorials are still just too intimidating and complicate for me.

  • What I would love to see is how to repair a part of the bathroom where there's a gaping hole surrounding shower handle to turn on the shower and the bath faucet, down to the tub. So the drywall and tiles are missing. Yup, that's the situation I'm working with in my mom's two bathroom condo. Probably a hard ask to do by myself but willing to try if its possible. I will probably need to call for some professional help on this one. In the meantime, I will be taking off 20 year old wallpaper from the bathroom walls and repainting them in the near future.

  • I live in Germany andere have brick walls so I really don’t have a need for a stud finder, but we tried using a electric finder or whatever it’s called and we couldn’t really figure that thing out. Fortunately in Germany cords usually just go one way because of the brick, so we got lucky with not hitting any electrical so far... 😂

  • Love the accent wall! I have seen a few similar walls on other channels and I always wonder why people don't paint the wall and trim first, then install the trim and do any touch ups. I haven't done a project like this before so maybe there is a good reason, or just different thought processes.

  • Anyone else find that calling your sponsor "family" feels weird/not genuine? I'm sure you have a great relationship with them, but it's a professional relationship. Calling them "family" makes it sound like you're trying to hide the fact that it's an ad. I understand that you might value that relationship, which is great, but that just comes off to me as over-the-top/fake. Just a thought! Still love your videos.

    Ad5Ad5Month ago
    • @Living to DIY with Rachel Metz I definitely didn't mean that as a personal attack. And I absolutely can't make assumptions on how you feel about your sponsors. I'm just stating how that makes me feel as a viewer, how that comes off to me. It's just meant as insight, you're absolutely free to ignore it. That's also why I asked if anyone else shared that view--it might be just me, or it might be cultural (I'm not American). I want to stress that I do not think you are fake (quite the opposite), just that calling your sponsor family sounds a bit fake to me as a viewer watching an ad. I understand where you're coming from, and I appreciate you taking the time to provide this context. I was just giving my viewer's perspective. You're absolutely free to take this with a grain of salt. Keep up the good work. My comment does not diminish the quality of your content.

      Ad5Ad5Month ago
    • Comments like these always perplex me because it's other fake USworldsrs that have ruined partnerships for content creators like us. I worked so hard to get to where I am with my sponsors and Zircon is the first company to ever take a chance and have me be their spokesperson. Could you imagine if I put someone down or called them fake about them loving who they work for or saying them considering their work crew family? I also think it's pretty bold to make assumptions about how a creator feels towards their partnerships since no one knows how I feel besides me. And one thing I am not is fake or saying things to make the sponsor look better. I understand that every episode is sponsored and I do call some of those sponsors my family ...but rest assured when you're here and you hear family - I always mean it because behind the scenes, they are doing more than you know as my DIY family working towards making my dreams come true 🖤 but that's not same for some other sponsors of mine.

  • I love the creativity! My only concern is that such an accent wall may date the home in another decade or so. I prefer the designs that can mature with the home without telling her age 😉😁

    NicoleNicoleMonth ago
    • I don't think there are many designs that don't end up being dated at one time or another. I also don't design to keep it the same for the rest of its existence. As I grow, as anyone grows...I personally like to update and reflect that into the space but it's all personal preference!

  • Question: do you need to put a clear coat seal over that whole decorative piece of pine that goes horizontally across the wall? I understand sealing each piece with caulk so they don't pop off but won't that piece warp with the high moisture in the bathroom if the piece isn't sealed with a clear coat? *this is an honest question, not trying to be negative or anything*

  • Accent walls with geometrically applied wood pieces always look SO COOL however understand that they are notorious dust catchers. They will be especially so in a bathroom with all the damp to help the dust settle onto all those planes and it will be obvious very quickly on black vs. a lighter color. Before creating such a wall consider whether you have the motivation to constantly dust a gazillion little surfaces. Best way I've found is to invest in a very good stiff bristled paint brush to knock dust off vs. a dust cloth that takes forever and still leaves the tiny corners stuck with dust.

  • Ahhhhh BATHROOMS😳 If and when something is going to go wrong it is always in the bathroom! I am an Union plumber‘s daughter ( only new plumbing) my nickname what is Johnny Bolt because my dad owned the company everyone called me Johnny. Since my dad passed away we renovated my kids bathroom and it was just hell! You are in such a tiny place so everything is so detailed whether it being the tile or even just painting every little corner and crack and crevice. We live in a state that union workers are not building the houses and that leads to the studs not being where they’re supposed to be tiling being done completely incorrectly etc. I mean we realized all of our showers were not backed with the correct green board and we had rotting happening!! It took us twice as long as I anticipated. I am wondering how you’re going to move those heavy duty bags once filled with tile because they have got to weigh a ton??? I guess that’s why in the past we have always used the buckets, they hold enough but not so much that you cannot lift them and the handle sure does help carrying them.

    • Why not? Maybe your criticism could be constructive.

    • @Living to DIY with Rachel Metz Rachel don't feed the trolls my love. Your make overs are **chef's kiss**. Sis is just jealous because she doesn't have your success or talent. Imagine being so miserable you are just mean tactless without any real reason. Imagine not even being able to add anything of adding anything constructive. I look forward to your next projects and seeing the next chapter where you can focus on your own growth and aesthetic.
